The Monday Club

Yesterday afternoon I gave a talk to a group of amazing women called The Monday Club.  This, what I would call "learning club," has been meeting for 123 years in Camden, Maine.  Every year they pick a topic.  This year's topic is Food, Wine and Culture.  Hence my involvement.  They then have subtopics on which every member does a fairly extensive research project and then presents every Monday to the group.  Guest speakers are invited occasionally to add to the mix.  I only hope I'm half as lively when I have the time to indulge in such pursuits!

Inspired by learning

This recipe is great to have on hand for when you have expected or unexpected guests. It also makes a great gift to give for the holidays.

Spiced Roasted Almonds

4 cups whole almonds
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon cumin
2 tablespoon melted butter
1 teaspoon kosher salt

Preheat oven to 400º F.  Combine all ingredients and spread onto a roasting pan.  Roast for 20 minutes stirring once or twice to turn the nuts.  Let cool.

Makes 4 cups.
